Purpose of the Project

The purpose of the Family Violence Fatality Review Project (FVFRP) in Georgia is to decrease family violence incidents and domestic violence-related fatalities. The project achieves this by collecting, analyzing, and sharing information about these incidents with stakeholders throughout the state. By identifying gaps in systemic responses, improving data collection, providing comprehensive reports and evidence-based training to communities statewide, and assisting in implementing best practices, the FVFRP aims to increase victim safety, promote offender accountability, and establish a coordinated community approach to ending family violence in Georgia.

• Increase Stakeholder Knowledge: The FVFRP recognizes that systems responders and service providers in Georgia may lack crucial information to support those involved in family violence effectively. To address this, the project acts as a clearinghouse for family violence data, aiming to increase stakeholder knowledge and empower better outcomes for victims. Through data collection and analysis, the FVFRP gathers information on crime trends, court outcomes, demographics, abuse and injury types, fatalities, and other relevant factors that shed light on the issue. The project then disseminates this valuable data to stakeholders, equipping them with the information needed to address family violence more effectively and provide targeted support to those affected.
• Improved Community Response: The FVFRP analyzes data to develop recommendations for improving Georgia's response to family violence. Through reports and training, it disseminates objective information to enhance training efforts, identify intervention points, and promote collaboration among community agencies. The goal is to strengthen the community response, support survivors, and reduce family violence incidents. 
• Reduction of Domestic Violence Fatalities: The primary objective of the FVFRP is to decrease domestic violence fatalities across Georgia. Alongside analyzing data to identify trends in fatal incidents, the project actively educates stakeholders about key indicators that raise the risk of potentially lethal violence. These indicators, such as a history of abuse, firearm accessibility, and suicidality, serve as foundational elements for risk reduction efforts in the field of family violence. By focusing on these indicators, the FVFRP aims to enhance prevention strategies and ultimately reduce the occurrence of domestic violence-related fatalities.
