Training Description:

The term collusion is often used to describe facilitation practices that excuse or minimize abusive behavior. Solutions to collusion therefore focus on facilitator interventions that correct specific incidents of collusion. While this is important, a case by case approach often misses the root causes for collusion in the first place. Classroom norms, or classroom culture, are the single most important factors that influence both colluding behavior and the impact that the collusion will have on an Family Violence Intervention Program. In this training, classroom culture and group dynamics will be examined to better understand manifestations of collusion and strategies to limit or eliminate collusion. Participants will be lead through a process to define their FVIP class goals, develop classroom cultures most conducive to meeting those goals, and in the process build collusion resistant classes.

Training Objectives:

By the end of the training, participants will be better able to:

  •     Define collusion and describe manifestations of collusion in domestic violence intervention programs
  •     Describe resilient classroom cultures that deter collusion and increase accountability
  •     Assess areas of growth in personal practices to increase safety for survivors of intimate partner violence
