As an FVIP facilitator you could hear a client support his patriarchal view with one of three major religions.  The following are from three religions which a client could say he heard as he worshiped this past week: Christianity:  my pastor said “my wife should submit to me just as I have to submit to Christ–Just as Christ is the head of me, he said I am the head of my wife.”   Islam: “In the Quran it states that one man’s witness is worth the witness of two women.”   Jewish: A Jewish male prayer: “I thank God every day that I am not a woman.”  What would be your response?  You can say “we do not talk about religion in this class,” but every week he attends your class he might also be worshiping in a setting that goes against the egalitarian message you teach.  This training is not designed to help you win the argument with your client.  This training is designed to help you understand where your client is coming from and ways to challenge his belief system.  None of these three religions is by definition patriarchal.  Dr. Clark is an ordained minister with four theological degrees.
