Theoretical And Practice Implications of A Trauma-Informed Approach To FVIP
Programs for men who abuse women are increasingly compelled to address the issue of “trauma-informed intervention.” While there are questions about what exactly that means, what is not in question is that many of the men, perhaps most, enrolled in Family Violence Intervention Programs have been traumatized and are experiencing traumatic stress. This fact has practice implications for these programs, and for victim-survivor safety. Using selective lessons from Men Stopping Violence’s curriculum, the facilitators of this workshop will demonstrate how and why a basic understanding of traumatic stress requires, at minimum, that we interrogate fundamental principles of intervention with men who abuse women.
