Family Violence Intervention Program (FVIP) facilitators often prioritize delivering content designed to engage program participants in an introspective, accountable process with the ultimate goal of reducing instances of harm and increasing safety for survivors of IPV. The process used to reach the learning objectives of the FVIP, and more specifically, classroom management can sometimes be deprioritized and seen as a distraction from how class time should be spent. Instead, when classroom management strategies are incorporated into the overall FVIP framework, they work synergistically with the curriculum to enhance learning outcomes, participant accountability, and enhance safety for all, inside and outside the classroom. In this training, classroom management will be explored as an important component of FVIP that enhances FVIP goals and objectives along with participant experiences. Classroom management will be defined and different classroom management approaches will be compared. A mix of small and large group discussion will be used to explore classroom management strategies and to explore training participants' areas of growth. Classroom management strategies discussed will be applicable in both virtual and in-person settings.

Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be better able to:

  • Define classroom management
  • Describe their classroom management goals
  • Draw connections between classroom management and enhanced program outcomes
  • Identify an area of growth related to personal classroom management skills in both virtual and in-person environments
