This training will describe how the neurobiology of trauma impacts victims’ memory, reactions, and behavior; describe how popular culture and media (social media, news, films, music, etc.) influence the way society thinks about sexual assault and violence against women; identify several ways in which gender bias may affect policing practices in sexual assault response; discuss how victims’ trauma affects the interview and investigative processes; and how to use trauma-informed interview questions to facilitate accurate information gathering and to build trust with the victim.
