This webinar will descripe best practices in providing parenting education for men who have perpetrated intimate partner violence (IPV). Juan Carlos Arean of Futures Without Violence will describe the Fathering After Violence curriculum, which is designed to be integrated into a batterer intervention program. David Adams of Emerge will describe the Responsible Fatherhood Program at Emerge, a 12-session stand-alone parenting education program for fathers who have completed, or are still attending, a batterer intervention program. Adapted from the Caring Dads curriculum in Canada, the Responsible Fatherhood Program combines lessons that are common to many parenting programs with ones that are specifically geared for men with histories of IPV.

David Adams has co-led Responsible Fatherhood groups at Emerge since 2002, and is a frequent expert witness in family court cases that determine child visitation and custody when there are allegations of IPV. Juan Carlos Arean was the originator of the Fathering After Violence Program and currently serves as Director of the Faith and Community Based Youth Violence Prevention Initiative at Futures. Previously, he served as Director of the National Latin@ Network at Casa de Esperanza and as a Sexual Assault Prevention Specialist at Harvard University.
