JEKYLL ISLAND - The Georgia Commission on Family Violence (GCFV) presented its ‘Task Force of The Year Award’ to the Troup County Domestic Violence Task Force at the 24th Annual Family Violence Conference at the Jekyll Island Convention Center.

GCFV Executive Director Jennifer Thomas said: “The Commission is pleased to recognize The Troup County Domestic Violence Task Force as ‘Task Force of the Year’ for their work in creating a coordinated community response to domestic violence in Troup County. Their accomplishments are inspiring and serve as a model for the state.”

The Troup County Domestic Violence Task Force has been meeting for 11 years. They host a conference every year for their community on domestic violence. One of their most noteworthy achievements is implementing a lethality assessment tool used by law enforcement when responding to family violence calls. Since its implementation in June 2017, the local domestic violence program has has received over 250 referrals and their crisis calls involving law enforcement officers has increased by 19%.

The Commission’s twenty-fourth annual family violence conference was held at the Jekyll Island Convention Center on September 9-12, 2017. The theme of this year’s conference was Beyond the Bruising: Unraveling the Complexities of Domestic Violence. Over 650 local and national community stakeholders attended, including judges, prosecutors, law enforcement, advocates, survivors, faith leaders, counselors and community members.
