JEKYLL ISLAND - The Georgia Commission on Family Violence (GCFV) presented its “Task Force Member of the Year Award” to Michelle Toledo Caiñas, Chair of the Forsyth County Anti-Violence Task Force: Collaborative Response to Sexual and Domestic Violence & Human Trafficking, during the commission’s annual family violence conference.

The Task Force Member of the Year Award is presented to the task force member who has taken extraordinary strides to better protect victims and hold abusers accountable.

In response to receiving the award, Michelle stated, “I am honored and humbled -- grateful to work with amazing advocates who are not only colleagues but friends. Thank you to all who have believed and supported me."

“As the current Chair for Fulton County’s Family Violence Task Force, Michelle has enriched and expanded the Task Force's goals to end violence in Forsyth County through her work in growing community connections and increasing training opportunities. She is always looking for new community partners to invite into the work of the Task Force to ensure victims have access to the services and resources they need,” said GCFV Executive Director Jennifer Thomas.

The Commission’s twenty-fourth annual family violence conference was held at the Jekyll Island Convention Center on September 9-12, 2017. The theme of this year’s conference was Beyond the Bruising: Unraveling the Complexities of Domestic Violence. Over 650 local and national community stakeholders attended, including judges, prosecutors, law enforcement, advocates, survivors, faith leaders, counselors and community members.
