In Georgia, an FVIP Informational Session is the mandatory first step for individuals seeking state certification to facilitate classes or own a Family Violence Intervention Program (FVIP).

Under the REVISED FVIP Rules 2026, this session serves as a gateway to the certification process for both Facilitators and Program Owners.

Purpose and Requirements

  • Mandatory Entry Point: Attending an Informational Session is required before you can enroll in "FVIP Basics," the primary 14-hour state-delivered training.
  • Background Check Authorization: During the session, applicants must submit a signed authorization for the Georgia Commission on Family Violence (GCFV) to conduct a comprehensive background check.
  • Scope of Check: The background check includes criminal history, the Georgia Protective Order Registry, and Department of Motor Vehicles records. You must receive approval from this check before proceeding to further training.
  • Training Credit: The informational session does not count toward the required training or continuing education hours needed for certification.

For Prospective Facilitators

As part of the initial certification, a Facilitator must:

  1. Attend the Informational Session.
  2. Complete the background check.
  3. Enroll in FVIP Basics.

For Prospective Program Owners (Providers)

Program Owners must follow a similar path:

  1. Attend the Informational Session.
  2. Complete the background check.
  3. Enroll FVIP Basics.

Note for Participants: If you are court-ordered to attend FVIP classes, this training is not for you, you must visit gcfv.ga.gov and enroll in a court-ordered class by a certified provider.
