August 25, 2025
JEKYLL ISLAND, GA – The Georgia Commission on Family Violence (GCFV) is proud to announce the Gwinnett County Family Violence Task Force as the recipient of the 2025 Task Force of the Year Award. The award will be presented during the 31st GCFV’s Statewide Conference in Jekyll Island, honoring the task force’s longstanding commitment to community engagement, prevention, and coordinated response to domestic violence.
Founded in 1996, the Gwinnett County Family Violence Task Force has built a comprehensive and collaborative model for addressing family violence. The task force embodies the spirit of a united, multidisciplinary response with members representing the courts, law enforcement, healthcare, education, mental health, faith-based organizations, social services, local businesses, and survivors.
“The Gwinnett County Family Violence Task Force is a shining example of what sustained collaboration can achieve,” said GCFV Chair Judge Paige Whitaker. “For nearly three decades, this task force has led with compassion, creativity, and persistence. Their community-driven approach and consistent engagement with diverse partners set a standard across Georgia. They are not only meeting the needs of survivors—they are transforming how those needs are addressed.”
The Task Force has found ways to consistently serve its community and raise awareness. Over the years, they have hosted joint trainings with GCFV to expand education among professionals and community stakeholders, raised funds to support survivors, and donated goods to local domestic violence programs. Their outreach efforts also include creating and airing public service announcements during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, organizing annual meet-and-greet events to strengthen collaboration among agencies, and maintaining a visible presence at community events such as the Gwinnett Solicitor’s 5K, the Partnership Against Domestic Violence’s candlelight vigil, and the Gwinnett Multicultural and Resource Fair.
Christa Harris, President of the Gwinnett County Family Violence Task Force, shared her gratitude:
“This award confirms that we are making significant strides in addressing family violence. It also encourages us to continue our community outreach efforts, enhance support for survivors, and work diligently to collaborate with more agencies.”
The Task Force of the Year Award is presented to a Family Violence Task Force that exemplifies grassroots organizing, consistent innovation, and a cohesive, coordinated community response. Through its mission to promote victim safety, effective intervention, and offender accountability, the Gwinnett County Family Violence Task Force continues to make a profound and lasting impact on the lives of survivors and the health of the broader community.
