Creating Affirming and Inclusive Interventions
A training on serving transgender and gender non-conforming people through FVIP
Training Description
It is well established that trans and gender non-conforming people (tgnc) experience violence at rates much higher than mainstream populations. It is also true that tgnc people perpetuate intimate partner violence, yet many intervention programs are ill equipped to incorporate trans and gender non-conforming people into their classes. In this training, gender identity will be examined to improve interventions with all program participants. Tools and strategies will also be provided to create inclusive and affirming spaces to engage trans and gender non-conforming participants in intervention classes.
Training Objectives:
By the end of the training, participants will be better able to:
- Contextualize intimate partner violence committed by trans and gender non-conforming people
- Define important terminology related to working with trans and gender non-conforming people
- Implement practices to create inclusive and affirming intervention programs for TGNC people
- Describe transphobia, its manifestations, and its effects on trans and gender non-conforming people
This training was approved by the Georgia Commission on Family Violence for 7 Commission-Approved Hours for FVIP facilitators. The views, findings, conclusions, and recommendations expressed in this training are those of the trainers and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Georgia Commission on FamilyViolence.”
