Victim liaisons operating within Family Violence Intervention Programs (FVIP) occupy a critical, sensitive role. Because these liaisons are employed internally by the intervention provider, maintaining a clear separation between advocacy for the victim/survivor and the program’s work with the respondent is essential to ensuring victim safety and program integrity.
This specialized training is required for:
- FVIP Providers planning to hire a victim liaison internally.
- Victim Liaisons who will be working independently of a certified domestic violence victim service program.
The session explores the intersection of advocacy and provider collaboration, establishing critical safety protocols, confidentiality boundaries, and best practices for working with victims/survivors of FVIP participants.
Core Objectives of the Training
- Safety and Autonomy Centered Advocacy: Establishing procedures to prioritize survivor physical, emotional, and legal safety without imposing decisions or conditions on them.
- Firewalls and Confidentiality: Navigating the strict boundary between survivor disclosures and the clinical and the FVIP participant.
- Understanding Power Dynamics: Analyzing patterns of coercive control, intimate partner violence (IPV) tactics, and how participants may attempt to use the intervention program or liaison as leverage against the victim.
- Risk Assessment and Safety Planning: Utilizing evidence-informed lethality assessments, updating dynamic safety plans, and coordinating emergency support when participant behavior escalates.
- Inter-Agency Coordination: Building pathways to independent community-based domestic violence shelters, legal advocacy organizations, and crisis lines.
Priority registration is reserved for current and aspiring Victim Liaisons, as well as FVIP Providers. Additional attendees will be admitted as space permits.
Registration closes December 8, 2026. For questions regarding the training please contact [email protected].
