Surviving the Unimaginable: Supporting Families After Domestic Violence Murder-Suicide

The Georgia Commission on Family Violence and Kate's Club will host an interactive training addressing the complexities of supporting families after a domestic violence murder-suicide occurs. Learn more about talking to children and teens about murder-suicide, understanding the impact of family dynamics on the grieving process, addressing traumatic grief with survivors and incorporating self-care in your work with families. 

Learning Objectives:

• Identify how family dynamics affect the way children and adults navigate the grieving process following a murder-suicide
• Define traumatic grief and how it differs from other grieving processes
• Recite best practices for supporting and talking to children and teen survivors of murder-suicide
• Recall the importance of incorporating self-care for families and those working with family survivors of murder-suicide
• Name local helping resources and referral sources for survivors of murder-suicide

GCFV is applying for 3 hours of CEUs for NASW-GA and LPC-GA. This training is not approved for FVIP CE hours. The intended audience for this training are domestic violence advocates, victim witness advocates, therapists, counselors, and grief counselors.
